Balkan Study Trips

In June 2026, the FORWARD Project visited the Balkans border region to explore the impacts of conflict, peacebuilding, legacy, remembrance and recovery.

Across the visit, participants met survivors, former combatants, experts, community groups and local people, taking part in workshops, panel discussions, guided tours and site visits. The programme explored both the challenges that fuel conflict and the approaches that can help build peace and resilience.

Bringing together participants from diverse communities across our own border, the visit created space to discuss difficult issues, share experiences and build understanding. Participants reported new insights, friendships and lasting relationships, making the study visit a significant success.

The experience will inform follow-up activity at home, with further Balkans study visits planned over the coming years, alongside opportunities to explore other international examples of conflict and peacebuilding.
